The ResMed QuietAir™ Elbow is the replacement diffuser elbow for the AirFit F20, AirTouch F20, and AirFit F30 full face masks — the version already fitted as standard on all three masks when purchased new. Where a standard elbow vents exhaled air through a single concentrated opening, the QuietAir uses dozens of smaller multidirectional apertures spread across a wider surface area to break up the exhalation stream. The result: mask noise reduced to just 21 dBA — a 10 dB reduction versus the standard elbow — and exhaled airflow that is 70% gentler, eliminating the directed draft that disturbs bed partners. Same airflow volume per breath, just redistributed silently. Includes 360° swivel. Compatible with AirFit F20, AirTouch F20, and AirFit F30. Not compatible with AirFit F30i. Part number 63494. Replace every 6 months.

ResMed QuietAir™ Elbow — Overview

The ResMed QuietAir™ Elbow is the standard-fit diffuser elbow for the AirFit F20, AirTouch F20, and AirFit F30 full face masks — the elbow already installed on these masks when purchased new. It is also available separately as a replacement, for patients whose original elbow has been damaged or lost, or for patients who have a standard elbow from an older F20 and want to upgrade to the QuietAir design.

The fundamental problem the QuietAir solves is exhaled air noise and draft. Every CPAP mask vents exhaled breath through an exhalation port on the elbow. A standard elbow does this through a relatively small number of larger, concentrated openings — creating an audible rush of air and a noticeable directional draft that can disturb a bed partner sleeping nearby. The QuietAir replaces this with dozens of tiny, multidirectional apertures spread across a wide surface area on the elbow body. Exhaled air is broken into multiple small streams and dispersed in different directions simultaneously, so no single jet of air is strong enough to produce significant noise or a detectable draft.

The clinical performance data is precise: the QuietAir elbow reduces mask sound power to 21 dBA — a reduction of 10 dB versus the standard F20 elbow. For context, 10 dB is roughly equivalent to halving the perceived loudness. The exhaled airflow reaching a bed partner is 70% gentler in peak velocity compared to the standard elbow. Importantly, the total volume of air vented per breath is identical — the QuietAir does not alter therapy delivery, pressure output, or CO₂ clearance. It only changes how that air exits the mask. Includes 360° swivel at the tube connection for free hose movement during sleep. Part number 63494.

QuietAir vs Standard Elbow

⚠️ Standard Elbow
  • Larger concentrated vent openings
  • Directed exhaled air stream
  • Audible rush of air on exhalation
  • Noticeable draft toward bed partner
  • Higher noise level — above 31 dBA
✅ QuietAir Elbow
  • Dozens of tiny multidirectional apertures
  • Air dispersed in all directions simultaneously
  • 21 dBA — near-silent exhalation
  • 70% gentler airflow toward bed partner
  • Same therapy volume — no change to pressure or CO₂ clearance

Key Features

🔇
21 dBA — Near Silent
Mask sound power of just 21 dBA with QuietAir — a 10 dB reduction vs the standard elbow. Quieter than a whisper at 1 metre, measured to ISO 4871 standard.
🌬️
70% Gentler Exhaled Airflow
Multidirectional apertures break exhaled air into dozens of dispersed micro-streams — 70% lower peak velocity, eliminating the directed draft that disturbs bed partners.
🔄
360° Swivel Included
Tube connection swivels freely in all directions — prevents kinking and tubing tension as you move during sleep, reducing mask displacement from hose drag.
Standard Fit — Ships with Every Mask
Already installed on all new AirFit F20, AirTouch F20, and AirFit F30 masks. This listing is the genuine replacement for a worn, cracked, or lost original.
🩺
No Therapy Change
Identical total air volume vented per breath vs standard elbow — no effect on therapy pressure delivery, prescribed settings, or CO₂ clearance effectiveness.
🧼
Washable Replacement Part
Hand wash weekly with warm water and mild soap. Air dry completely before reattaching. Replace every 6 months or when the diffuser apertures show visible blockage or damage.

⚠️ AirFit F30i not compatible. The QuietAir elbow fits the AirFit F30 (tube-down, under-nose design) but is NOT compatible with the AirFit F30i (top-of-head tube design). Confirm your mask model before ordering.

🛏️ For bed partner disturbance: The QuietAir elbow is one of the most effective single accessories for reducing CPAP therapy impact on a bed partner. The 70% reduction in exhaled airflow velocity and the near-silent 21 dBA noise level addresses the two primary complaints — noise and air draft — that cause partners to notice CPAP use at night. If you are currently using an F20 or F30 mask with the standard elbow and your partner has raised these concerns, replacing the elbow with the QuietAir version is the first and easiest step.

Frequently Asked Questions

My new AirFit F20 already has a QuietAir elbow — why would I need to buy a replacement?

The elbow is a consumable part that should be replaced every 6 months. The micro-apertures in the QuietAir diffuser can become partially blocked with skin oils, detergent residue, or mineral deposits from tap water over time, reducing noise performance. It may also crack or loosen at the pivot point from daily attachment and detachment cycles.

Does this elbow change my therapy pressure or breathing comfort?

No — the QuietAir vents the same total volume of air per breath as the standard elbow. Your prescribed pressure settings, mask seal, and CO₂ clearance are unaffected. The difference is entirely in how that air exits — dispersed gently in multiple directions rather than in a concentrated stream.

Does the QuietAir fit the AirFit F30i?

No — the AirFit F30i uses a different elbow design due to its top-of-head tube routing. The QuietAir elbow (part 63494) fits the AirFit F30 (tube-down design) but not the F30i. Check which F30 variant you have before ordering.

How do I fit the QuietAir elbow onto my mask?

Remove the existing elbow by gripping it firmly at the mask port and pulling straight out or twisting slightly — it is a push-fit connection. Insert the QuietAir elbow by aligning it with the mask port and pushing firmly until it clicks or seats securely. The swivel end connects to your CPAP tube in the same way as the original.
