What Actually Causes Rainout
Rainout is the technical term for water condensing inside your CPAP tube and dripping into your mask during the night — sometimes felt as a cold splash on the face, sometimes heard as a gurgling sound partway through the hose. It happens because of a simple physics problem: warm, humidified air holds more moisture than cool air. When that warm, moist air from your humidifier travels through a tube exposed to a colder room, it cools down as it moves — and the moment it cools past its dew point, the excess moisture condenses on the inside wall of the tube as liquid water.

1. ResMed ClimateLineAir 10 Heated Tube
Its mask-end temperature sensor is what sets it apart from generic heated tubes — it measures conditions right where the air enters your airway, not at the machine, and adjusts in real time. Paired with the HumidAir humidifier, it activates Climate Control Auto, managing temperature and humidity through the night without any manual input.
⚠️ AirStart 10 owners: The AirStart 10 is not compatible with any heated tube — ResMed built it without the electrical connector needed to power one. If you own an AirStart 10 and experience rainout, a heated tube isn't an available upgrade path for that specific machine; the standard SlimLine tube is your only tubing option.
2. ResMed ClimateLineAir 11 Heated Tube
Functionally identical to the Air10 version — mask-end sensor, Climate Control Auto with HumidAir 11 — but built with a proprietary Air11 connector. Many AirSense 11 machines sold in the UAE come with only the non-heated SlimLine tube in the box, making this a common and worthwhile upgrade.
3. ResMed ClimateLineAir 10 "Oxy" Heated Tube

If you're not experiencing rainout or don't run heavy air conditioning overnight, there's no need to upgrade. Its smart-fit cuff only works with genuinely compatible ResMed machines, so it will reduce pressure delivery if forced onto an incompatible model.
⚠️ AirStart 10 owners: ResMed didn't build the AirStart 10 with the electrical connector heated tubing requires — this SlimLine tube (or an equivalent standard tube) is your only tubing option on that machine, not just the budget one.
5. Philips Respironics HT-15 Heated Tube
Requires a connected, active DreamStation humidifier to actually heat — at setting 0 it behaves as a plain non-heated tube. Most DreamStation users in air-conditioned UAE bedrooms find setting 3–4 comfortable, moving up to 5 in particularly cold rooms.
6. Philips Respironics PR-15 Standard Tube
This is genuinely the tube that ships in the box with a new DreamStation. Perfectly good for everyday use, travel, or humidifier-free therapy — but if you run the humidifier in a cold room and notice condensation, the HT-15 heated version is the direct upgrade path.
7. Philips Respironics HT-12 Micro-Flexible Heated Tube
You must select the correct 12mm tubing option in your DreamStation 2's settings menu when using this tube — otherwise pressure delivery will be inaccurate. The mask-end PR12 adapter also lets modern DreamWear masks click on directly without their own quick-release connector, for an even lighter overall setup.

Do I actually need a heated tube, or is it just an upsell?
It depends entirely on whether you experience rainout or cold-air discomfort. If your bedroom runs strong air conditioning overnight — which describes most bedrooms in the UAE for much of the year — a heated tube genuinely solves a real problem rather than being a cosmetic upgrade. If you don't use a humidifier, or your room stays relatively warm, a standard tube works perfectly well and there's no need to pay extra.
Can I use any heated tube on any machine?
No. Heated tubes use a proprietary electrical connector specific to the machine generation — a ResMed ClimateLineAir 10 will not fit an AirSense 11, and Philips HT-15/HT-12 tubes are specific to DreamStation machines. Always match the exact tube model to your exact machine model; check your machine's box or manual if you're unsure.
Does a heated tube work without the humidifier?
No — every heated tube in this comparison requires an active, connected heated humidifier with water in the chamber to actually heat. Without the humidifier running, a heated tube behaves identically to a standard non-heated one.
What temperature or heat setting should I use in the UAE?
